I'm sitting here holding my Letter of Discharge. It's incredibly emotional. It's been a LONG five years and one that has seen my mental health suffer at times through the financial pressure and feeling that my life really wasn't my own. My long-term relationship broke up under the stress too, and I have actively avoided meeting anyone else as I didn't want to have to explain why I couldn't afford to do the things that most new couples do...
I know many of you will recognise all that, but please just keep on going and enjoy the moment when it comes.
It really feels like a new start - a clean slate. It's the hardest learning process I've ever gone through but I KNOW I will never be in that position ever again. It was £45,000 when I started... Crazy to think of that now. Now at least I still have the equity in my house so I can sell on and get somewhere much smaller. It's time to live - but what I know know is that doesn't equate to big spending.
I know where I was this time last year... It's a hard, hard time of the year for anyone who feels this will never come to an end, but it will. And I hope you will all feel the weight lift off your shoulders as I just have.
And I have to say, my final payment was just two weeks ago and the letter arrived today. I can thoroughly recommend Grant Thornton who have been fair and understanding through the whole process.
I don't really celebrate Christmas but here's to you all in 2015.

Hi HappyGirl,

Well done on successfully completing your Trust Deed and especially receiving your discharge at this time of year which will allow you to start 2015 free from debt and the Trust Deed. I'm sure it must be a great relief.

I always enjoy reading posts like this as I know that if set up correctly and for the right reasons then a Trust Deed can and does provide the debt relief it's designed for. From time to time Trust Deed's will go wrong as with everything in life but for the vast majority of people they successfully complete their Trust Deed without any big problems.

I'm sure your post will give encouragement and reassurance to other people who are still in their Trust Deed that there is a finish line.

Best wishes for 2015 and the future ahead.

Congratulations HappyGirl and thanks for sharing your feelings. I am sure that many people will feel a lot of encouragement reading your post, particularly at this time of year.

Thanks also for the kind words about Grant Thornton - fair and understanding is what it should be all about, so it is great to hear your positive feedback and I'll be sure to pass it on.

Do you have any plans for 2015 now that you are debt-free?
