The Accountant In Bankruptcy today released the latest quarterly figures for personal insolvencies and debt arrangement schemes. They're for the 2nd quarter of the AIB's 2013/14 year.
Overall personal insolvencies (bankruptcy and protected trust deeds) totalled 3411. This is 16.1% less than the same period last year.
There were 1714 bankruptcies. This is a decline of 7.9% compared to the same period last year.
1697 protected trust deeds were awarded during the period. This is a reduction of 23% compared to the same period last year.
1170 DPPs (debt payment programs under the Debt Arrangement Scheme) were approved. This is an increase of 5.4% compared to the equivalent period last year.
Hi TDA,
It makes for an interesting read. Often people will say to me ÔÇ£Oh you must be so busyÔÇØ but that's not generally the case and I think the statistics show this when it comes to insolvencies.
I wonder what the statistics will reflect this time next year when we have had the new Trust Deed changes in place. Will the Sequestration number increase because of the 1 year difference at the moment between Sequestration and a Trust Deed.
I noticed that in the first two quarters of the year 2,370 DAS applications were approved but additionally 1,190 applications to revoke a DAS were applied for. A high number of applications for DAS to be revoked I think.

It would indeed be interesting to see the updated figures as the figure of 1,190 applications to revoke is an incredible figure.
