I don't think it is Paul, but thats my own view. It obviously depends what you want to lease, prices range from about the £100 mark for a supermini up to £2k per month for an Aston etc.

Ok, so you don't own the car at the end of the lease period (you can pay a final balloon payment and keep it if you want), but thats not important to me, I simply hand it back and choose something else. It also means you don't have to worry about depreciation or having to sell a car later.

I spend hours on nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk!

This is very weird. Independently I've been thinking about exactly that. I'm the type of person who even if I was to buy a car over three years on traditional finance I'd probably end up buying a new one straight away.

So leasing looks like a good option. A Nissan Juke fully maintained for two years is about £270. The same car on HP is about £700 quid a month over 24 months!

Any ideas on negotiating the price down a touch??

do they agree a price for the final payment if you wanted to keep the car after the lease term at the start of the agreement??

From what I read you can extend the agreement, usually lowering your monthly payments and some finance companies will let you buy the car outright - but I'd expect the price to be somewhat inflated.

Not cheaper at all. Think I will hunt for a 3 year old motor after September's new regs come out. Gives me longer to save up a bigger deposit. Lets hope my mot in may is relatively pain free!!!

Yes Paul, the final payment is usually agreed at the outset.
