Hi all. I'm just posting this to help anyone on this site. I got discharged from my TD on 4/10/11. On January 2012 I applied for a credit card from vanquis & was approved. On February 2012 i applied for a mobile phone contract from 3 & was successful. I made sure the credit card was cleared off in full every month & all bills were paid on time. I also was pro-active in clearing my credit file, it took me a while with a lot of letters & phone calls but eventually got there. Our car was getting old & needed replaced so at the end of January 2013 I plucked up the courage to apply for finance for a car. I was overjoyed to be accepted for finance & collected my new Vauxhall Insignia from Arnold Clark on the 1st February. Since my TD I have thought long & hard about any financial decisions that I had to make. I can't say that I felt great during my trust deed & doubted whether I had done the right thing but looking back I feel it was the best thing I could have done. I'm not saying a TD is for everyone but it was good for me. I just wanted to reassure everyone that their is light at the end of the tunnel. I hope this info helps. Thanks
Thank you very much for taking the time to share that p boy kk.
I know a lot of people will be reassured that taking action to deal with a debt problem does not necessarily lead to a lifetime of financial exclusion afterwards.
Enjoy driving that car!!
Thanks for sharing this story 'p boy kk'.
I am just starting the process of clearing up my accounts and it's great to here there is life after a TD.
Might be good to get some kind of template put on the 'Life After Trust Deed' section of the site to help people with the letter they need to send to ex creditors after everything's finished. There seems to be a few online connected with IVA's but not much for trust deeds.
Nothing left to discharge - everything's done and dusted!
Hi p boy kk,
Thanks for sharing your story. One of the common questions a client will ask when discussing all of their options is about credit rating. We can only advise what our knowledge of this is but with real life feedback from people who have completed their Trust Deed and then went on to obtain credit in the future it does help those people at the very beginning of the process trying to seek debt help.
It's easy for us to refer people to the forum if they do have any questions or concerns to read the real the positive feedback regarding a Trust Deed or any other option.
My neighbour has an Insignia and it's his pride and joy. I'm sure yours will be too.

Well done p boy kk, it's good reading that you've come out the other side smiling.
Hired an insignia a couple of times in the last couple of years and really enjoyed driving it too-enjoy (What colour?)[8D]
I'm glad I've had a good response to my post. I didn't want it to sound as if I'm just a materialistic person. Being able to sleep at night & not dreading answering the phone is also great. I found this forum to be the best source for information. Also to the creditors, don't take any nonesence from them. I had a running battle with Santander & eventually put in a complaint to the Ombudsman. The outcome was an apology & a cheque for £50, a total result considering. Hi to Rockbottomsolidbase, my car is black. I feel this year is the start of a new life for myself & my family. Thanks to all on this site who have helped me.
How long was that between signing trustdeed and getting car finance?? Was that a brand new car and did you pay a deposit or have trade in??
I am hoping to get a new car in about 12 months time.

A new dawn.
Hi Paul, I signed my TD on Feb 2009, got discharged on Oct 2011 through early discharge. I signed for finance on 29th Jan 13. The car was new, 62 plate, registered in Sept 2012 & had done 4k miles. We traded in my wife's car, she hasn't been in a TD. The amount they gave us cleared off the finance. I put down £300 deposit. I went to Machargs in Glasgow. I never mentioned TD or finance problems. It took 1 day for finance to go through. I hope this helps.
p boy kk, what is early discharge ?
Every end has a start !!
Interesting about the ongoing battle with Santander. They're the ones that didn't submit a claim to my trustee and are still showing me as being in default. I may have to use your idea of a threat of the ombudsman to get them to change it to satisfied. They seem to be the recurring name in banking issues.

Hi Timelord, I got early discharge because halfway through my TD a family member found out about my situation. They then paid the remainder of my contributions, I paid £225 per month & £500 to protect the so called equity part of my house. It then took my TD company 1 year after this to finally discharge me, form 5 on 4/10/11. To be honest I didn't feel it was worth it. My TD company had all money they required from Aug 2010, got discharged on date above & finally my trustee discharged themselves Dec 2012.
So I take it the td is still on yur credit files?? I had heard it was easier to get finance for a new or newer car that for say a £7k motor.
Insignia looks like a lot of car for the money. Brilliant stuff.

Hi Paul, yes my trust deed is still on my credit file. Everything else on it has green ticks, all paid on time. I read on this forum from Blacklilly that she got refused credit for an older secondhand car but then got accepted for a new 14k car. That was the price of mine as well. I got to the stage I thought, stuff it lets just go for it. The difference this time round is I can afford it. From reading your posts I think your TD was round about the same time as mine so I wouldn't fear anything now. Good luck Paul
Useful stuff to know pp boy, thanks for the info.
I made my last payment last month and I'm just hoping things are all tidied up quickly. Like you, I'm also thinking about a new car, although I'm thinking of a personal lease (which I've done before) - thing is, I was paying quite a lot per month for my TD, so I've now got a fair bit spare for a car, but I can't decide what to get!
