My partner has been trying unsucessfully to obtain a mortgage. He finally obtained his credit report only for it to show up he was "financially linked" to his ex girlfriend who has now just entered a Trust Deed (it became protected in October last year). There is a loan in my partner's name (which he knew nothing about) which is ex girlfriend was paying and now this loan is part of the Trust Deed. Is there any way my partner's name can be removed or will his credit remain bad throughout the time of his ex girlfriend's Trust Deed. Any advice is appreciated as my partner is really upset about this has he has always been able to obtain good credit and we have now lost out on a house due to this. Thanks.
Hi Sharon.
The loan cannot be included in his ex girlfriends trust deed unless it was either in her name, or in their joint names.
She could not have added a debt to the trust deed that was in your partners name alone.
Are you able to clarify exactly who took out this loan?
Did they have any joint financial commitments, like a current account or a mortgage?
They have no other financial commitments. Mortage was paid off when they split up and sold their flat. I have told him to get a copy of the loan papers from his ex girlfriend to clarify exactly how the loan was obtained. I have gone through a Trust Deed and did wonder how this loan could have been added to the Trust Deed without his knowledge.
Thanks
If there is no longer any financial association then he may be able to get the connection to her removed from his credit file by notifying the credit reference agencies of this. I think it is called a Notice of Dissociation
