Can anybody advise me and my husband about the equity in our house. Our trust deed company have come back and told us they are looking for 6,000, do we have to acept this sum ? or can we come to a deal with them. Also do they say what we can pay or can we say. Although we have been paying alot into the deed which is now finshed, we are looking forward to having some money to spare.I know it makes sense to pay whatever to them the quicker we will be free of them. Also can we be discharged before the equity money is cleared ?[?]

Hello lorrainek.

I suppose it depends upon whether you agree that this sum is fair. If you don't it will then really be up to you to provide your trustee with some arguments why this sum isn't right. A valuation that supports your case might be very valuable for this purpose.

Generally you'll be asked to pay the sum over at the rate that you can afford. This will typically mean carrying on paying the amount that you were at the end of the trust deed.

Discharge would not normally follow until the equity had all been paid over I'm afraid.

Hi,
Thaks for your reply. Well I suppose the sum they spoke about is slighty lower than I thought, just wandered as to whether we just ago with that sum.At the moment we are only paying half as my husband's deed is done, so is that what they will expect us to pay.I had really hoped that we would be discharged before we pay the equity, so a bit disappionted a bit about that.Anyway still there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.[:)]

Hi Lorrainek, the trustee will not discharge you you until all your obligations are met, and that includes realising the equity in your home. How much you have to pay back will depend entirely n your Trustee, and they may allow you to pay slightly less if it does not extend the term by too . It is worth speaking to them.
