I'm fortunate to be in a job that although I'm entitled to a company car, I manage without one, I don't drive too, never learnt etc.
I've come through a recent restructure and would like to try and safeguard my job by at least learning. Would I be able to budget driving lessons into my I&E as I'm living on a tight budget as it is. This would of course be temporary (I hope!) until I can learn....or is this considered a luxury of sorts?
Thanks
Hi leeper1974.
If you're in a trust deed already your Trustee has to take into account what's in the best interests of your creditors. I think there would have to be a good reason for your trust deed payment to be adjusted downwards for this type of expenditure; for example your job would be in serious jeopardy if you did not drive or you may achieve a promotion if you could drive which would increase your trust deed payment.
I guess it's really down to you to make your case to your Trustee and hope that they agree with your reasoning.
The other thing to bear in mind is that taking a company car could increase your tax costs significantly and therefore affect your ability to maintain your current trust deed contribution.
Thanks for this, I'll play it by ear, I'll be having a review at Xmas and will see if the driving malarky is brought up - after that I've only 1 more year of my trust deed left - and will be able to afford to do it off my own back.
