It’s looking like it’s going to be difficult to facilitate a Trust Deed based on what you have said and the equity of 50k.

Try not to be too harsh on yourself. From my limited knowledge about gambling it’s a condition that I think does need more attention paid to it. The ease of which you can gamble online is unbelievable. It’s a really tough thing to deal with.

One of my friends was a compulsive gambler to the point they nearly lost everything including family and now swear by attending GA. it’s not for everyone but it’s helped them massively having that support network. Maybe look into it.

The positive thing to remember is that you can protect and safeguard your house, freeze the interest and charges and pay back the debt at an affordable level per month. Focus on that and that hopefully come retirement you are debt free, mortgage free and not worrying about all of this.

Thank you for your help so far. I know I have to deal with the issue of gambling. I tried GA last time but being the only woman in a group of men felt like a fish out of water. I now have no access to online gambling so that’s a start. I have a lot of questions to ask so need to start the ball rolling. The guilt of saying no to my husband after him serving 30 years in the Forces and 2 daughters getting married and not being able to help is a huge burden but we will get there hopefully.

Hi Quangie5

Sorry to take a while to respond to your queries, though Swandog has obviously been providing some great advice already.

I would hope that there is a viable solution to your situation that you would find palatable, but it is difficult to provide good advice tailored to your particular circumstances on an online forum to be honest. We would really need to get more detail from you, such as on your budget and on how the debts break down between what is in your name and what is in your husbands name. If you wish to get in touch with us by pressing the "Contact" button then we'd be happy to look at things a bit more closely for you.

The free sector agencies that Swandog refers to are generally debt charities, Citizens Advice Bureaux, or local authority debt advice services. I have links with advisers in many of these places throughout Scotland, so would be happy to try and refer you on if you wish.

Try and stay positive! Hopefully something can be sorted out for you.
