My mum offered me the use of her old car, doubt it has any value, and to pay a years insurance on it for me. Would this cause any issue me using this as a second car?

Insurance would be in my name but my mum the registered owner.

Every end has a start !!

Don't see why it would - unless it means that you will be paying out more each month and therefore it affects your ability to stick to your contribution arrangement.

Only cost would be minimal for petrol, it's just to help get the kids to activities

I don't see any problem with this either Timelord. Sounds like you have a very caring mum.

Best advice would be putting a call into your case manager to inform them of this as it may come up in 6 monthly review that you are paying for petrol which could prompt them to question this.
