I finally completed my PTD in Jan last year. As luck would have it I was made redundant the following month and it has been a long hard road to get back on my feet. I am keen on applying for a job that seems perfect for me, but it requires "National Security Vetting Procedures" to be carried out. Can anyone tell me if having a PTD is something that will show up, or something that would stop me from being given a job offer? Thank you in advance for any advice or experience of this process.
Hi TryingHard and welcome.
Vetting procedures are all about minimizing risks. Certain types of employer might see employee financial difficulty as posing a risk in certain types of professional positions. As such I'm pretty sure that financial checks might form part of the process.
Given that you've completed a trust deed, an employer might well form a view that the prior financial difficulty (if identified) has been dealt with and no longer presents a risk.
To the extent that you're able to say, what is the nature of the job you're applying for now?
Vetting procedures have been discussed on here before, so someone reading this may be able to share relevant personal experience with you.
Hi TryingHard and welcome to the forum.
Well done on successfully completing your Trust Deed last year.
I’m not sure to what would be involved in a “National Security Vetting Procedures”.
If you feel comfortable enough, can you tell us what industry the job will be in? If it’s financial services then it could involve a credit check or an insolvency check.
Hopefully someone might be able to share some more information regarding the vetting procedures.

Thank you David and TDA for your advice. I have managed to find more information and from what I have read, having had a PTD in the past (and for me, the recent past) would not be a positive. I also value my privacy and so have decided not to apply for the job. I recently had to go through a credit check for renting a flat and I found this incredibly stressful, though I was completely upfront with the information that I had completed a PTD. I have always found this forum incredibly helpful - I have had to rejoin as I had forgotten my user name and password - and the support and information on here really really helped while I was going through the PTD, and of course, afterwards. Thank you again.
