Hi Guys.

I still have an active Credit card which wasnt included in my trust deed as there was no outstanding balance.

I have now moved jobs and the company expects me to pay me expenses and reclaim back each week. Would there be any issues with me using this credit card so im nt out of pocket then pay off once i was reimbursed?

thanks in advance

Jamie

Welcome to the forum jambo72uk.

Being in a trust deed doesn't place a restriction on using new credit.

It's almost always a bad idea to use credit during a trust deed because no allowance will be made to fund the repayments. This can quickly turn into a major problem if a running balance builds up.

Disciplined use of a credit card for the sole purpose of funding short-term business expenses might be an exception to the rule. It's easy to see why someone might choose to do this in the situation you describe.

Thanks for the quick response 🙂

I contacted my trustee and asked them if i'd be able to apply for one and they said no!

However as i've had this one active for years i'm assuming this wont be a problem, i'll contact them and see.

It would only be for short term business expenses as i have no need to extra credit at the moment

I guess it would be worth checking the terms of any specific agreement with your trustee, or expectations they have set, but there's no general restriction on using credit while in a trust deed.

You may be in a slightly unique situation because you have a credit card available to you. It's heard to think that any application for a new credit card would be successful currently.

Hi Jambo72uk and welcome to the forum.

I’m in the same satiation as you whereby I’m required to travel a lot and I use an interest free credit card to cover my expenses until my employer reimburses me on a monthly basis.

There isn’t any restrictions on someone using credit whilst in a Trust Deed but the obvious issue could be that the debt begins to build up again. It’s about a balance between what you need the credit for and can you afford to pay this back.

I would have assumed the Trustee would approve the use of this under the circumstances but speaking with them they might just adopt that blanket response rather than take an individual view based on your case and needs.

I think that as long as you are able to control the credit, use it every month for the expenses and then pay it back you will be fine.
