Morning all!

I have yet again got myself into unnecessary debt., now my circumstances have changed I am in the poop!
I have a previous (discharged) bankruptcy so decided to take out the dreaded Vanquis card to build up my credit rating, and yes I ran it up to £3000.00 while moving house and relocating with my children. What an idiot, I can't believe I did that! I knew it was a bad idea but I have been able to manage the repayments really well.
I have another debt with Marisota of £3500.00 which I have used mainly because Vanquis was at the limit and I needed to furnish and clothe my house and children.
I felt really terrible that I had relocated so I know I tried to over compensate by making their bedrooms really nice! silly mummy.

Anyway so here I am with debt to 6500.00
I don't work as I am a student but my Husband does, he has recently had his hours cut so Im anticipating paying my monthly payments will be impossible.
Oh and the worst thing he he doesn't know about my debt! ( he always said he would kick me out if I got into any debt again)
what a mess!
I have been paying £300 to Vanquis and then using my vanquish Cc to pay Marisota £200.

Help please, how do I start to resolve this.

I also haven't looked into PPI although I think I should be due some but as I have remarried and changed my name 4 times I am thinking this will be a nightmare to sort out too?
I am in the UK if that makes any difference.
No property owned.

Welcome to the forum sunnyjax. I'm very sorry to hear that you find yourself in this difficult position.

I notice from your profile that you may be resident in the East of England. Is that correct?

What has been the source of funds to make the £300 payment to Vanquis each month?

I'm not sure that looking into whether PPI is due back to you needs to be difficult. PPI providers will be well used to working with people that have changed their name in the past. There are very good step-by-step guides to making your own claims on the Moneysavingexpert and Which? websites.

Given that you've been bankrupt in the past I strongly advise you to avoid using a company to make PPI claims for you.

Also - I just wondered how it has been since you were discharged from bankruptcy?

Thank you for replying, I was discharged in April 2015 from my bankruptcy.
My creditscore on Experian is very good.

My husband gives me housekeeping, which is how I have paid my bills in the past but this is looking to stop due to his hours being cut.

Why should I not use a company to look into my PPI claims. SO are you therefore saying I can do it myself ? - is there a link for how to do this?

THank you for your help.
Yes I am in Cambridge area.
I relocated here as my eldest daughter was being bullied and stalked ( awful!) in Bedford. So we resettled here, then I met my husband here and stayed. we/he doesn't own any property.

Thanks for your answers sunnyjax.

Because you've been bankrupt in the past it's possible that a PPI seller might admit liability for a claim to you but refuse to make the payment to you. The end result could be you get a bill (from the claims company) and no cash to pay it. It's also possible that your trustee (for the bankruptcy) already made claims on your behalf.

We don't tend to link in this forum, but if you Google "Moneysaving Expert.com PPI claims guide" or "Which? PPI claims guide" I think you'll find some useful information. The Which? site certainly used to include a tool that would even write the letters for you.

It's probably best that you understand that this site is geared up to assist residents of Scotland (where different types of debt solution are available than those which will be available for you).

Having said that, I get the sense from the information that you've given us that you might want to find out more about a "Debt Relief Order". You could contact your local Citizens Advice or call StepChange (a debt charity) to learn more about a DRO, whether it can help you, and whether there are alternatives that you should also consider.

thanks so much, I didn't realise that Scotland and England had different debt services!

Thank you for the advice and time taken to advise me, I really appreciate it.
