Out of the blue we received a decent sized cheque back from our old bank relating to our mortgage (sold house couple of years ago). The cheque was compensation for the bank not advising us there was a capped rate available, we knew nothing about it, all very strange.
Anyway the cheque is made out jointly to me and my wife. How would I handle this situation?
My wife is not in a trust deed , so would half go to her and the other half (my half) go to the trust deed?

Thanks...

Hi DontDoDebt.

Thats an interesting one. Common sense suggests it should be split as you say and I would be hopeful that it will be. Maybe not as 100% clear cut as it seems though.

Best to run it by your Trustee and see what they say.
