Hi All
New to the forum I have looked at AIB and am delighted to see that I have been discharged 9/1/2017. I was informed at the start that my credit rating would be not good for a further 3 years.
I have contacted my trustee who to be fair to them have been great over the years however they cant seem to advise how I could get credit again as I am trying to buy a vehicle.
Probably a stupid question however I was just hoping if their was some advise or a company I could call to try and see how I could at least start building my credit rating again?
Hi happydays and welcome the forum.
Well done on successfully completing your Trust Deed and receiving your discharge.
The main factor to improving your credit file is time and also the amount of effort you are willing to put into this. I would say the more effort you can put in the better.
If a creditor has put a default against you on your credit file this will stay on for a period of 6 years from the date it was placed. You want to check your credit file to see if there are any and then if there are you want to make sure the “default date” is dated as close to the start of your Trust Deed as possible.
Have a look on the forum by using the search tab for posts by “firewalker”. They have been excellent at assisting others repair and rebuild their credit file.
In terms of buying a new car and securing finance it’s going to just be a case of applying to see how you get on. Be honest and up front with the salesman as will try everything they can’t to help.

Hi David this was very good of you to reply thank you. Will most definitely take your advice.
Thanks Again
Hi Happydays
I got finance through Moneybarn, about 12 months after my discharge. The interest rate was astronomical, but my old car was used as a deposit and they were very helpful and quick.
Luckily I have had a windfall and have managed to pay off the remaining finance!
