Hi All,

I made my last payment for trust deed Yesterday. Spoke to knightsbridge who said that the discharge letter takes about 6 - 12 months to arrive. Is this correct?

What can I do to speed up the process. Any help would be highly appreciated?

Could you please let me know the average time-scales involved.

Regards

Welcome tckraju and well done on finishing your payments.

There's no useful guidance or average to give you here - some firms just get it done much sooner than others. 6-12 months seems like a long time if there are no complicating factors.

Others here have escalated things with their provider when they've considered that things were moving too slowly.

Hi tckraju and welcome to the forum.

Well done on reaching this point and successfully making your last payment to your Trust Deed.

As TDA has advised there is no set timescale for this and it can vary from firm to firm. Ideally my firm try to work towards a timescale of 4-6 weeks from a client's final payment to receiving their Form 5, certificate of discharge.

I would say that having to wait 12 months for your discharge certificate is too long. Until you are discharged and receive your Form 5 should you inherit or acquire any assets, win the lottery etc. this can be ingathered into the Trust Deed for the benefit of creditors.

Other people on the forum have advised that they have become a polite nuisance of themselves and eventually received their discharge. I would say you will need to keep on top of them and regularly chase them up for it.

Please let us know when you do receive it.

Hi All

I am with the same company for my Trust Deed and received a letter stating the same thing that it takes 6-12 months to discharge you from the Trust Deed. As David Tannock said earlier why does it take this firm so long and his company tries to do this within 4-6 weeks? Can any of the experts explain the process after you have made your last payment?

Thanks

Gillian McIlroy

Hi gmac.

I'm afraid we cannot speculate on the processes at any particular firm.

Most firms seem to take the view that, once it's clear that their customer has completed their obligations, they can proceed towards discharging their customer.

I get the sense that some firms are waiting until they're closer to being able to discharge themselves from the trust deed, then going about both tasks at that point in time.

There's also the perspective of different work flows at different firms, and the different level of priority they might place upon different elements of their workflow.
