Hi there,
I was in a protected trust deed, I actually just made my last payment to it last week and I'm hoping to be discharged as soon as possible.
I have been waiting for a long time to apply to the Police and among the numerous checks they carry out on potential applicants are strict financial checks, though eligibility criteria seems to differ from force to force.
Having spoken to Strathclyde police they have made it clear to me that I would not be able to apply to them for another 3 years, they seem to be quite strict. I have found a force though who have told me that being in a trust deed would not rule me out and that they look at everyones financial position on an individual basis.
On the application form itself there are numerous financial questions and I just want to make sure I am filling it in absolutely correctly as the slightest mistake could disqualify my app -
Have you ever had a loan arrangement terminated by a bank/building society/finance house/other?
I take it I would have to write all details of the credit cards/loans
that became part of my trust deed for this question?
Secondly- Have you been party to a voluntary agreement registered with the County Court?
And presumably this is where I would give details of the trust deed?
Many thanks for your help in advance.
Welcome to the forum Swayed and congratulations on having completed your trust deed.
A loan agreement being "terminated" would, I believe, be reference to a default notice. There probably will have been a few of these and your credit file should reveal the details.
The section you mention does seem like it could be an appropriate place to mention the trust deed.
It might be worth adding a covering letter explaining the situation with all of the credit accounts and the trust deed. That way there could be no misunderstandings and no doubt that you have fully disclosed the matter.
My husband applied to the police whilst in his trust deed and his application slipped throught the net until he phoned them up to make sure they knew he was in a td. He was then told that he would not be able to apply for the police until he was 3yrs out of it (the same as bankruptcy) and that this was a rule for all scotlands forces (this happened to be strathclyde).
