After visiting this site back in September I am now in a protected trust deed. I've left my house a few weeks ago ( partner and 3 kids). Just waiting to find out where to send the keys. When we signed the leases for our rented house i signed up for insurance specifically for tennants thinking this was the best way to go. However today i received a letter stating the direct debit had been returned unpaid. Knowing this to be untrue i made a call only to be told the money would be back in my account in the next few days that the company had cancelled my insurance. When i asked why i was told i should never have applied for the insurance. I'm puzzled is this because i have a trust deed ? If it is what happens when my car insurance is up for renewal - will i be refused?

Hi jess73.
Was this basically a household contents insurance policy?
There is nothing connected to a protected trust deed that means you cannot have this type of cover. However, some insurers may place underwriting restrictions on persons who are bankrupt or insolvent (which includes sequestration and trust deeds).
Hamish, a site member who works in insurance, has previously advised that when taking out any type of insurance policy while in a trust deed that you double check with the insurer that they do not have a policy restriction connected to your financial status at the time.
Hi TDA,
Thanks for getting back to me I will look into this further.

Hi Jess73,
You wont regret signing the TD.
I'm no expert in insurance but I assume you have people living in your spare house. If thats the case most small local brokers who can access the internet can provide quality cover cheaper than most. Also for your car please dont worry as most individuals in a trust deed have no problems getting car insurance so long as they have had no bumps!
Hope you get sorted out.
