Question for the experts! We are allowed allowances for food etc. which have limits that are preset. Could someone tell me when these figures were last updated? How many months (years) has it been since the figures have been looked at? Interesting point due to the current financial climate with gas/petrol costs spiralling etc. Take care all[:D]

Hi eoin8008,

The figures most commonly used are set by a committee including charity debt organisations and creditor representatives. They are reviewed from time to time when it is perceived there has been a general change in the cost of living.

Petrol/gas are examples of areas that are in some ways not driven by these figures. For example petrol costs would be determined to be reasonable by way of distance commuted etc rather than an arbitrary figure. If someone commuted 100 miles per day to earn a good salary it's in no-one's interest to bring that to an end.

The guidelines apply more to things like housekeeping and clothing etc.
