I make hair bows and soft toys as a craft hobby at the moment but I have had interest in getting orders. It is a tiny hobby and I would be lucky to make £500 in the first year. I have two children under 3 and work part time (on maternity at the moment) so I don't have the time to made a lot of bows etc. I have not decided if I will be starting as a sole trader too soon as I don't know how this would affect my Iva as I am still waiting on protected status. Should I wait for my Iva decision before totally making my mind up?
Hi Twinkle33.
If this is something you want to do and it will not affect meeting the obligations to your trust deed I can't really see what would stop you.
You would need to let your trustee know if you were making some money from it as your payment is based upon an affordability calculation.
Hi Twinkle33,
There shouldn’t be any issues with you starting a small business and this should not impact on your Trust Deed or it becoming protected.
As TDA has advised your best to let your Trustee know if you do take this forward. Also, you want to have a think about any responsibilities you may have in regards to HM Revenue & Customs.
