I'm in a TD. My wife recently applied for a savings account and was declined. Is it normal that a wife/husband is tainted with the same poor credit rating as the spouse in TD?

Hi WBN.

Your credit ratings are separate. Any credit problems you've had don't affect your wife's credit rating.

If you have joint financial arrangements, like a mortgage or joint current account, this link between you will show on each of your credit files.

Financial institutions can choose to use information about this linkage if they wish as part of their decision making processes.

Seems strange in terms of a savings account. I'm sure she will get one elsewhere.

Hi, our mortgage is joint so guess they have used that as part of the process. As you say, there will be other institutions who will not factor this in for a savings account.
