Ok thank you very much for your help. Im very worried my bru would be advertised locally can you tell me how likely this would be

They don't really get 'advertised'.

AiB have a list of BRU/BRO on their website. You have to go looking for it. If someone found it, all it would tell them would be that:

On 2 September 2012 a Bankruptcy Restriction Undertaking (BRU) was accepted by a debtor living in ******* for a period of two years. The misconduct was in terms of Section 56 B 2(j) carrying on gambling. The debtor admitted to gambling, using online sites, before and after award of bankruptcy. The amounts gambled could have been used to pay off his debts and resulted in him incurring additional debt. The BRU will remain in force until 2 September 2014.

For example.

If a Sheriff awards a BRO then the AiB usually does an article about this on the front page of their website. Sometimes the papers pick up on this.

Hi sleeplessnights.

If this process seems intimidating I'd encourage you to make a face-to-face appointment with a local advice agency; the Citizens Advice Bureau for example.

Some personal support might make the process more clear and of less concern to you.
