I have been out my trust deed for a few years now am glad to say. Since being free and able to live a normal life ive been able to get finance no problem and have never been rejected yet. Also glad to add that ive been able to keep it under control.
Any evidence of the trust deed has been off my credit file for a few years, there is nothing on it to suggest I ever had bad credit.
I went today to get a remortgage as my current deal with the Halifax is coming to an end. I can stay with the Halifax, but lower interest rates elsewhere. I have passed the agreement in principle stage, but I got a fright when they told me when they run a full application they will do a Bankruptcy search.
My question is will this show up that ive had a trust deed and if so will this stop my remortgage going through? I thought I was past all this now.
They haven't asked me about past credit so I haven't offered the information.
Hello Dollybee.
The bankruptcy search will be to see if you're subject to any restrictions at the current time. No worries for you there.
It's interesting that the new lender hasn't asked you any questions about previous insolvencies. This might suggest that this isn't a subject of interest to the underwriters provided that it's old enough not to be on your credit file any longer.
However, if it is of interest (behind the scenes) they'll be able to look into it themselves. For example, your entry on the Edinburgh Gazette is permanent so they could find out about an old trust deed there if they wanted to. Some banks might also keep their own records of old insolvencies.
Even if they did go looking it doesn't mean that you'd necessarily fall outside of their acceptance criteria though.
Also - if this were of serious concern to them - I really think they'd have asked you about it in the application form.
Best of luck with it.
Hi DollyBee,
It's positive to hear that there is life after a Trust Deed. For many people just starting out on their Trust Deed's or asking for advice on their options it's a common question on what their credit rating etc will be like after completing the Trust Deed.
I'm not a mortgage expert but I think the Bankruptcy search will probably be for anything currently live or recently discharged. If you have been discharged a number of years now hopefully this won't cause you a problem.
Please let us know how you get on with the application and if it's accepted. Good luck.
