I think this was the right thing to do Angibabes.
It accomplishes a few things:
1 - RBS cannot state in the future that you ran out of time to challenge their position on your claim.
2 - The Financial Ombudsman will have to continue to monitor this situation because they cannot currently close their case.
3 - The Financial Ombudsman provides information to the Financial Conduct Authority (who regulate RBS) about the volume and types of complaints that they are receiving. The FCA will typically take an interest where one financial institution has adopted a different position to most others.
Are they allowed to do this when after 6 years should be written off. Ive read RBS has bad reputation for this when other banks etc dont put towards debt from like 90's
I had offer and had to call them as cant get letter cause mothers address and she shielding covid 19
They said i had send proof and gave done. Then said they had to call back when they send emailed letter for online signature. Ive been waiting 3 weeks now and no email. Should i call back or wait?

Hi A6446 and welcome.
To keep informed about what's happening with RBS and PPI, you may wish to check in on the following forum thread from time to time:
https://forum.trust-deed.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7521&whichpage=14
To the best of our knowledge, they're not paying out any PPI claims where they know of old RBS debt that was written off as part of a trust deed.
This is subject to ongoing legal action, so could change in the future.

Question for advisors ,if your ppi complaints were upheld there would be no reason to forward a complaint to FOS ,rbs have been ongoing with this ppi offset after trustdeed for 6 years , I have now lodged a complaint with FOS ,but rbs will refuse to look at complaint out with timescale . I understand FOS have a exceptional circumstances if out with time , do the advisors think this is right for rbs to use this loophole on customers
Hi Luke4630.
I don't suppose that it really matters what any of us think about the course of action RBS has chosen. Hopefully it wont take too much longer for the legal action to be completed (though we know that this process doesn't move very fast, sadly).
Thanks for reply can I ask why you haven't answered my question and side stepped , in regards to RBS / FOS
To my understanding you are an advisor ,and I have asked a reasonable question ,
You can choose what questions you ask Colin. And anyone reading them can choose whether and how they want to answer them.
Someone else might want to provide a view. Or they might not.
Nobody here is claiming to be a claims/FOS/legal expert. We aren't.
Thanks again for feedback
