Hi, I made my final payment on my trust deed earlier this month. I'm looking for some advice, i'm sure i saw a thread on this previously but can't find it now!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about improving my credit rating, as given my history it will be shot to bits? I'm going to try and do things like get a credit card and pay it off every month. But are there any companies that are sympathetic towards people with bad credit?

Also any ideas on how long it will take recover?

Any info much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ross

Hi Ross and welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on completing your Trust Deed.

I think the idea of limited use of a credit card is a very good one if you feel comfortable with it.

Some other visitors to the site might have some ideas about who might be prepared to offer credit. I've certainly heard of a number of people being able to get low-limit (though very high interest) cards from Vanquis. Provided the bill is paid in full on time each month the interest rate need not be a factor.

Anything that goes on your credit file stays there for six years. Accordingly over time the negative events of the past will start to drop off your file and the more recent positive use of credit (if that's what you do) will stand you in good stead.
