Hi,

Quick question for the experts again. I entered a TD in May 2011, finished May 2014 and am now waiting for all TD records to fall off my credit file which should be May 2017. I have tidied up my credit file doing the usual correspondence with photo copied Form 5 etc. Everything was very clean and satisfied or settled. Well this morning I had my periodic peek at my credit file and found I now have an open account from BOS and it has defaulted next to it!!! The date of the original default next on the account is May 2011 but for some reason it has become come up on the live accounts and showing defaulted for this month..arggggg

Any one heard of this before....

Thanks again

ps. I'm looking for a template that I can use again for sending a polite but professional letter to BOS regarding their error. I used one from here a few years back but cannot seem to locate it, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Greggy.

This site itself doesn't provide template letters, but another poster may be happy to share a letter that has worked for them.

I think if it were me I'd probably submit a formal complaint. This forces a bank to deal with the matter within a fixed period of time. It can also mean that the matter is dealt with by complaints staff who may have more autonomy than customer services staff.

You don't have to write to complain - a phone call is quicker and perfectly sufficient.

Hi TDA,
That's fine, I think I shall phone and complain.

Why do you think an account which was included in my TD dated May 2011 has found it's way back onto my credit file as an open account and defaulting the old sum? Just out of curiosity.

Thanks again

I wouldn't complain by phone. Always do it in writing.

I agree. I would say that anything important should be put in writing.

Even if you relax that rule for 'most things', a complaint should definitely be put in writing.

Morning,
Just to recap on my issue which happened the beginning of May. I check my credit file periodically and found that BOS had re-opened an account which was included in my TD from 2011. It was showing as an open account and was defaulting for the same amount from 2011, dragging my credit score down into the mud again.
After a little consideration i decided to write using recorded delivery to The Data Controller, BOS. I also phoned their complaints department and made an official complaint. After a few hiccups along the way, (them voiding and deleting my first telephone complaint for some unknown reason) I have just received a cheque for ยฃ150 through the post with an apology. My advice is keep checking your credit file periodically just in case!!

Hi Greggy,

That's a really good outcome. I'm sure ยฃ150 will come in handy.

More importantly, did they sort out your credit file?

Hi Greggy,

Exactly the same thing has happened to me though I've only been calling them. Waiting on a callback about it either tomorrow or Monday. It's also dragged my score back down so well miffed about it. Hopefully it will get sorted out quickly as it came as a shock when I saw my reduced score.
