Sorry I’m coming late to this. It looks like you have clarified the issues with the car and ownership.
How it has been clarified eventually is how I would have treated it. It’s the person that purchases the vehicle that owns it. Just because you have use of it doesn’t mean that you own it.
Glad you got there eventually.
