Final payment will be made in 14 days for me :). Has been tough at times, but so relieved to be getting there now. Can anyone give me advice on how to go about getting my credit history updated? Bank (coop) have already advised that I can have my account upgraded once I have proof of discharge due to managing it well.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Good for you 4654ae16.

You may not need to get your credit status updated, it should theoretically sort itself out. However...

Firstly you'll want to see your credit report. You may wish to leave that a few weeks so that creditors have a chance to update it following your discharge. Most of the credit reference agencies offer a free trial. We think CreditExpert is the best (not the cheapest though) and you can access it at the following link amongst other places:

(Link updated 2020: https://www.trust-deed.co.uk/repair-your-credit-rating.html).

Check that default notices are:
1 - Dated before, on or around the start of your trust deed.
2 - Marked as satisfied or partially satisfied.

You'll also want to check that the balances on the debts have been set to zero.

After that it's a question of layering some good credit history on top of the previous issues. That really is a question of making some positive use of credit (assuming that this is important to you - some people don't care). CreditBuilder prepaid cards and some of the more expensive credit cards may be options for that.
