Hi,

Yet another question for the experts....

My fiancee and I currently reside in a rented flat that we moved into a few months prior to my Trust Deed being set up. For various reasons, we are now looking to move elsewhere in October of this year (when our current lease expires).

I do have a fairly large concern over this however, as I understand that letting agencies often perform credit checks on prospective tenants. Being that I am currently in a trust deed, I can only imagine that this would not go in my favour, and therefore moving to alternative rented accomodation (particularly one managed by a letting agent) may be difficult.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Ian.

Hi Ian,

This is a common concern for people entering into all types of debt solution. Thankfully I'm not aware of anyone who has found finding a new tenancy impossible.

The best move is probably to explain the situation to the agent in advance so they can discuss it with their client. When they agent/owner understand that you have dealt with your debt concerns, are not weighed down by any other credit commitments, and that your financial affairs (income and expenditure) prioritise the payment of rent most landlords will feel comfortable.

A letter from your current landlord confirming your good payment record will be extremely helpful as well.
