Hi I'm in the process of applying for a mortgage nearly 3 years post discharge. I've got an agreement in principle with Halifax and just starting the full application. My credit rating is only just below excellent and have saved a good deposit. My question is my old Halifax student current account was included in the trust deed and will they 'know' this when they are reviewing the application And refused me for an old debt since settled? I had another mortgage i principle from another provider who done a hard search and where willing to lend to me but Halifax are giving a better deal.
Thanks in advance
Hi charlie_girl.
I don't know the detail of Halifax's underwriting procedures, but you'd have to assume that they'd have information to hand regarding the conduct of your historic accounts held with them.
That doesn't mean they'll necessarily reject your application though, even if this is one of their checks.
Fingers crossed for you.
Thank you for your reply. My mortgage broker said if it was an issue I wouldn't have even got as far as an agreement in principle? I'm hoping that's true!
Thanks again
Have been told today mortgage approved, currently doing the survey part and then hopefully have the mortgage loan papers. Now that it's at survey stage do I have reason to celebrate??

Hi Charlie_girl great news about being accepted for a mortgage, you must be delighted and it sounds like you have a good broker, is it possible you can confirm which mortgage broker you used please?
many Thanks ๐
