There could be quite a few reasons juliet. Every lender models their acceptance criteria on what their analysis and lending history shows them is likely to work profitably for them.
For example, they may have had a bad experience with many borrowers that happen to have one of the credit cards that you're using - so they mark down applications from people that hold one.
Your credit cards might have credit limits they consider to be too high for an ideal customer, or too low.
They may have had a bad experience with a number of borrowers in your postcode, so they mark down applications where the same postcode comes up.
They may have had a bad experience with a number of borrowers that are in the same profession as you.
The list of possible reasons is endless...
Update from YBS, apparently we were turned down as my other half has had a house repossessed, even though it was 6 years ago, that was their reason.
So, going on this information, we will never get a mortgage ๐

Thanks for sharing that juliet - it really goes to show how difficult it is to make assumptions about credit decisions as a result of the very many variables that are usually involved.
Previous repossessions are obviously going to be a cause for concern for most mortgage lenders - but I don't think that means that you'll never get a mortgage again.
Mortgage brokers might be able to guide you towards lenders for whom this is less of an issue than it is for some others.
Hi All, just wanted to give an update, today my husband and I were offered a Mortgage with Skipton. I have been discharged from my Bankruptcy for 4 years.
It has been an anxious few weeks, we got the AIP 3 weeks ago and have been waiting 2 weeks for them to process the full application.
I hope this inspires all you out there that there is life after bankruptcy and you don't have to wait that long. That said, we have been whiter than white since the bankruptcy and have saved like mad.
One very happy camper today ๐
