People with Basic Bank Accounts will soon only be able to use RBS, NatWest, Tesco, Morrisons or Post Office cash machines. Apparently it will affect nearly a million accounts...
Problem if your a rural customer.....
I did not want to post a link TDA but it is on the BBC Business News pages.....
Wow... they're doing this to save 24p per transaction (according to an "industry source").
Hardly going to turn their business around but will certainly inconvenience a whole lot of people.
I see from the article that Lloyds has similar restrictions in place already which I wasn't aware of.
Thanks for sharing the information Porcupine.
Is this the RBS that is almost nationalised? That contributed to the downturn enormously?
Awaful, but we as consumers have the choice to change accounts.
I am waiting for offical notice, do not really want to change as I am happy with the service I get. Would we be able to build in the cost of having "paid" account? Thinking about it and where the machines are in my area, might just leave it, after the issues sorting out DD the last time I changed accounts. As a last resort there is cash back....at some tills
Hi getingthere.
I think there might be some unwillingness to build in the cost of a paid-for bank account into your trust deed payment while a number of other banks still offer basic accounts without wanting to penalise their clients for using the cash machines of their rivals.
Interesting press response to this story today. Here's a couple of quotes from a paper in a story entitled "Royal Bank of Scotland drops a clanger":
"... maybe the costs would be a bit more sustainable if the bank hadn't had to put ยฃ850m aside to cover the cost of sorting out customers who had duff payment protection insurance policies stuffed down their throats".
"These customers may not be profitable but many of them do pay tax. They might have expected a bit more from a bank they helped to save from oblivion".
I got this through from RBS as they are stopping the key account i have and changing it to a basic current account, if you read the documentation you can use the post office and any cash line with a visa symbol so no real change
Thanks, I have a bsice current account, so we shall see what comes through. Not going to change accounts just yet as they service my current needs.
Ah, well received the e-mail today, it is a Basic Key Account that I have and that they are changing, I spoke to a very nice lady, who gave me the information I required without to much detail from me, to move to the next account would have to be a new credit application etc and new bank details etc, have decided to stay as is and see how it goes.
