Well, it finally arrived on Friday morning.

My letter of discharge, one piece of paper stating I am now free of debt. A great great feeling I have to tell you!

Can anybody advise what happens now? I had no assets so is that it, no more correspondence with my trustee?

And as for my credit file, should I send photocopies of the discharge to Experian etc? I've already been approved for a credit card anyway (!) but would this help clean up my credit file?

Hi tinsoldier.

Congratulations again now it's official and documented (and congratulations on your 100th trust deed forum post as well!).

You're finished with your Trustee now.

I'm not sure about sending a copy of the discharge to the credit reference agencies. Hopefully someone will be able to advise whether this has helped them at all.

I would suggest checking your credit file for Default Notices that aren't marked as being "satisfied" in a month or two. Hopefully your creditors will update your record; though previous threads indicate that some creditors are a little "patchy" in how well they follow-up on this without a prod in the right direction.

One other question - how long does the trust deed stay on the register of insolvencies?

I've got a feeling that this is a permanent register tinsoldier.

Hopefully one of the experts can confirm this for you.

I just looked at the online AIB register of insolvencies and it would seem you can only search for current protected trust deeds and those which have been discharged in the past year.

Here's the quote from their FAQ's:

"ร”ร‡รณHow long is information available on the register of insolvencies?
Information is available from the register of insolvencies for the year following the end of the action."

Congratulations Tin soldier, I am waiting on my discharge and phone once a fortnight to chase things up, Ive just phoned today and the 14 day claim process has been done however its a 2 week process thats taken 7 weeks, they are arraning the final meeting which requires 2 weeks notice and then after a futher 28 days a form 4 will be sent to the relevent person so as long as i keep chasing i think i could expect to get the discharge around the start of november. how long did the whole process take for your discharge??
