My fiance and I are trying to rent a property through a Letting Agent. He has a Trust deed which he had before we met. He will be finished it in Jan 2011. We have been refused a property because he has a Trust Deed as they do a credit search. They said they do a credit search on everyone at the property regardless of whether they pay rent or not. I thought by being honest and open with them this may help but they just refused. Any advice on this would be much appreciated!

Hello jules123,

I think that you did the right thing by being open and honest. While one landlord might take issue with this, many many others will not and will appreciate your open approach.

It's worth remembering (and perhaps pointing out) that the income/expenditure budget used in a Trust Deed prioritises the payment of rent.

Another thing that might help is a reference from a previous landlord demonstrating a good payment record.
