I have a confusing question to ask. I hope someone can help me.
I am the keeper of the car I drive, therefore I have my own insurance policy for this car. But I am not the owner, my ex boyfriend is. I called dvla for confirmation of this and they advised that they do not hold details of owners of cars only keepers. This confused me as I am worried that this would be taken into account for trust deed. The car was paid for in full so no outstanding hp on it. So he doesnt have any documents to show that it is his.
Can anyone clarify this situation for me??
Hello inovermyhead,
That's a really interesting question. The keeper of a car and the owner are two very different things.
How did your ex-boyfriend purchase the vehicle? If a HP company is involved can they supply a copy of the old agreement? Can he produce bank statements showing that he made payments for the car? Kevin or Mark may have some other thoughts.
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me, he bought the car last year, it was paid for in cash - ?รบ3000 at the time. But I was registered as the keeper from the start as I am the main drver. The main reason for this was so I could build up my own no claims bonus.
Since splitting up he has let me still use the car for the sake of our daughter and so I can drop her off/pick her up from him etc as we now live at other sides of the city. But has made it clear the car is his and would prefer if I could get my own. (not possible at the mo) Just worried it would be seen as an asset of mine and casue problems.
I think it's wise to consider this inovermyhead but I don't think it's likely to be a major issue.
Would your ex have a fairly significant withdrawal on a bank statement around the time of the purchase?
I wonder how Kevin/Mark would handle this situation in practice to ensure all parties are treated fairly?
