Hi, I have a new offer of employment in the finance industry (which I currently work in)

One of the background checks for this job is an Experian background check. I had a TD which started in Dec 2012 and I completed this in 2016.

Since then it has fallped off my credit file and I now no longer have any credit issues. My Experian score now sits at 999 and when I look at the section relating to CCJ/insolvency etc it says “no public records”

The Experian background check is a questionnaire and asks “have you ever been insolvent, had a ccj or trust deed”

Obviously the answer to this is yes. It’s not that I want to lie but I don’t think it’s relevant to give the company this information if it’s something they would never know if it’s no longer on my credit file?

Or should I just reply yes and then when they get my credit file they’ll see it’s no longer there?

Welcome to the forum Sally21. I'm very sorry that it has taken us so long to reply to you.

The issue here is that a company is entitled to ask more or less any type of question like this as part of an employment application process. It happens also with some mortgage applications, with information no longer present on a credit report being requested.

They're entitled to expect you to answer the question honestly. Integrity is important in most industries, and especially so (as you already know) in financial services. Hopefully they'll view an honest answer such as this as being a positive sign regarding your integrity, rather than an issue that prevents you from securing this role.

Hi thank you for replying.
I have responded to the Experian check honestly. I just hope the new employment sees my current situation and can look past this.

Hi Sally21,

Is there any opportunity to provide them with some background information about the trust deed?

For example, we've heard from people in the past who have been able to explain to a prospective employer that the trust deed was the result of events that were entirely outside of their control.
