Hi, quick question please if someone can help. At the beginning of this month I applied for debt arrangement scheme and have signed my standing order to the insolvency firm this week with fees with them start from beginning of July. I haven't received notification in post yet that das has been accepted but can I stop paying my credit card companies in the meantime as I'm really struggling this month to make ends meet. I am up to date with payments so far but due to pay credit card direct debits of over ยฃ600 next week and can do without paying this, as simply don't have it.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thankyou [:)]
Hello Kazibee.
People often stop paying their creditors directly once they have formally committed to a debt solution.
I'd suggest speaking to whoever helped you to set up the DAS, but I think they'll tell you to cease making direct payments.
Thankyou that's a relief I will.
Hi
One of the great things about the Debt Arrangement Scheme is it gives you periods of legal protection. This is where creditors cannot enforce the recovery of your debt legally against you or make you bankrupt.
The first period is when an intimation is put on, and last six weeks, the second part is when formal offers are made to the creditors through the scheme.
So once the application is made you are protected. Not that is necessary as you are up to date, but will give you some piece of mind. You can also check to the Scottish Govt DAS register to see the progress of your case. If you got to the Scottish Government DAS site you will see a link to that.
Hiya Kazibee
Before you stop making your payments to creditors, just check that you are on the DAS Register - https://services.aib.gov.uk/dasregister/
I know that some fee-charging organisations take the first couple of months' payments to cover their own fees. So, like Robin Hood advises, use the DAS Register to check what stage your application is at.
If your application isn't on the REgister yet, you could always make smaller payments to your creditors, to show good faith. (And keep them at bay for a bit!) Options could be either token payments, or a similar amount to what they will get through DAS.
good lcuk!
