My Trust deed is coming to an end and i hope to be discharged in the not to distant future.

My question is, i read that a number of people do some chasing to have there negative credit most importantly the trust deed removed from credit files, i need to know, best places to look for credit file, who i will need to contact and anything else i need to do once i am discharged. i know there are plenty of threads on improving credit after a TD so i will have a look through those but its the credit file im not sure on.

Hi gemgem.

You cannot remove the trust deed from your credit file I'm afraid. It will remain there for six years from the time it started. Everything that's on your credit file stays there for six years.

Default notices should generally be marked as "satisfied" once the trust deed is finished. If there are any unsatisfied defaults on your credit record you should contact each lender to have them update the entries.

Satisfied defaults tell potential sources of credit that the debt referred to is no longer due.

There are three major credit reference agencies who, in theory, will each hold similar information about you. They are Experian, Equifax and CallCredit. Contact one of them to get a copy of your credit file. They make lots of expensive ways to get the report available to you, but slightly tucked away on their websites you'll find the means to get a copy for a one-off charge of ยฃ2.

Thats Great,
Thats exactly what I needed to know, I will wait till I get my Discharge letter before getting a credit report and then just 3 years till the TD is also removed.
many Thanks for your help.

Hey again gemgem,

I have joined free trials on experian & callcredit,
Experian shows nothing of my trust deed or any bad credit therefore giving me a false reading of good credit.
callcredit showing trust deed as still active & poor credit rating.
equifax are a bloody nightmare & no matter what i try & do they just keep giving me their number to phone, which i will do.

when you get your discharge letter make plenty copies & send 1 to each of the 3 above credit agencies to update their records.

As for improving credit rating most acheivable unthreatning seems to be pre paid credit cards or high interest credit card such as capital 1 or vanquis. I have just applied for & successfully accepted for pre paid gold mastercard which after 12 months shows on credit score.its a start

Thanks for that Lynne, I will be doing the same and think a pre-paid credit card is the best way forward for me, if you come up with any other ways to improve credit it would be great to know.

If it's the Cashplus card you have, remember to add Creditbuilder on to it. I think that's how you can use it to start to build up a credit rating.

Nothing left to discharge - everything's done and dusted!
