Hi there,

Looking for some advice. I have been in a protected trust deed for 6 months. I have been contacted by two companies this week to inform me that I have been a victim of identity theft. I was asked by one company to notify police and get a crime reference number, which I have done. Is there anything else that I should do?

My name and date of birth is being used and they have changed my address to one in Portsmouth.

Hi Debtnomore.

You might also want to access your credit file to see if any other applications have been put in and/or any credit taken out.

You can take out "protective registration" with CIFAS which will make it harder for people to get away with using your details in the future.

I think this happens more than people know. It recently happened to one of our team and a well-known bank got taken out for ยฃ16,000 as a result.
