Hi there, I got discharged from my TD in October last year. I'm currently trying to tidy up my credit file. All my accounts are still defaulting. Most companies have been great, send your discharge letter & it'll be changed to satisfied or partially satisfied. Santander have told me they won't change this & it will default for the 6yrs that it stays on your credit file. Is this correct? Also trying to contact HFC bank, but the only number I can find is ยฃ1.53 per minute. Does anyone know of any other numbers for them? Any help on this would be great as Santander look as if they are going to mess me up for another 3 years. Thanks

Hi p boy kk.

We researched this last year, and from what the Information Commissioners Office told us we're quite clear that Santander have given you incorrect information. Perhaps not surprising, they consistently perform dreadfully in rankings of customer service provided by banks.

This summarises the position:

I'd try a formal complaint to Santander, and then follow up with the ICO if you don't get satisfaction.

Not sure if this number is the right one, but for HFC I have 0121 214 4943 marked on a letter that's currently on my desk.

Hi pboykk

Santander are required to ensure the default notice on your credit file is the date your TD started and also to mark your credit file as satisfied or partially satisfied. However this 'Satisfied' is marked in the column beside where it says 'default' and they do not have to remove this 'default' on there, it will automatically drop off after 6 years from the default date.

Hi TDA

Having just moved my account to Nationwide card cash account and only just signed the TD. I had read a post from someone who said Santander had not closed their account after their TD became protected and it was an easy to use account.

I decided it might be a good idea to try to open one so that I had a possible fall back. Do you see any problems with this?
Thanks

Not really if you owe them nothing ann910.

It's just that they consistently get rated poorly for customer service by their own clients.

Nationwide tend to be rated pretty well.
