Hi
I'm currently almost a year in to my trust deed. I've just moved into a flat with a housing association and I had to pay a deposit and first month's rent up front. I didn't have the funds to pay the deposit so my mum kindly paid this for me however the funds were transferred into my account and then on to the housing association. My mum knows nothing about my trust deed and I don't want her to know anything about it and she is adament she is going to transfer me money to buy a washing machine and fridge as I currently don't have these and desperately need them. The transactions will show on my bank statement and I'm worried that this will be questioned at my review and my trustee will ask for the money? My mum would be devastated to find out I was in a trust deed so I am worried they will ask her to write a letter confirming what the money was for. Do you think they will accept the fact that the money was gifted as I cannot afford to buy these items myself?
Hi Ksm2690.
It sounds like you already have some pretty good evidence of the source of the funds and what they were used for in terms of your new home? The bank transactions sound like they cover this off?
You might want to speak to your trustee about this now. They might put a note on your file explaining what's happened. You could refer back to this if this issue is flagged at your review.
You could also get a sense of whether this first payment, or any further payment, is likely to cause any issues for your trust deed.
