Well, here we go. My Trust Deed was protected on Fri 24TH June. Haven't heard a peep from anyone since then............... Until yesterday. who can it be, MERCERS. Ive had 9 calls since yesterday.I called to reply to the voicemail they sent me as a matter or courtesy to inform them that I have a protected trust deed and that they should not be contacting me.They replied that they were not aware of this, so I have therefor pointed them in the direction of the insolvency register. Do barclaycard only pass limited information on to them? Will I hear anything from them again? Watch this space!! And finally, where do I find this reference no that I keep getting asked for when I say I am in a trust deed? GT have never issued me with one.
Hi
The calls will continue for a few weeks - just keep telling them you are in a TD and point them in the direction of the register.
As for the reference, I too was asked for this EVERY time despite not having one, I always used to ask do you understand what a TD was and they quickly would get off the phone after that as there is nothing on the script for them to come back at you with after that.
Worked for me...
I always used to call back any voice mail left too - makes the process a bit faster from your point of view.
Money saving tip - rather than calling the 0845 and 0870 numbers go to saynoto0870.com and search for a landline number you can call for cheaper!
Hi Scotslad,
Thank you for your comments.I will bear them in mind. Another thing, Is it wrong that I am getting some sense of morbid satisfaction in telling them to get lost, knowing that I am fully protected ? I am a new contributer, and I have to say that the moral support and comradeship on this site is amazing. it defo gives you the strength of character in dealing with these calls.
thanks again.
Oh my god I can't wait to say get lost !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi again,
I felt a satisfaction - but the satisfaction for me came from finally taking control of my finances back. I even went so far as to explain to the people in the call centre how they should approach putting an objection in to the TD - it was funny because I knew it would never make it anywhere!
The thing to bear in mind is that the people who call are just doing their job and they really do have a script to follow - the majority of the time the know the ins and outs of an IVA but not a Scottish Trust Deed, so the mere mention of it often puts an end to the call.
I love this site, discovered it about 12 months into my TD and I wish I knew about it when going through protection too - that was the worst time of the whole process!
Ahh, Mercers. I almost miss the 10 times a day calls I had from them and the lovely little letters and cards that came through my door, saying they were going to visit. They never came.[:(] All joking aside, Mercers are the collection arm of Barclaycard. I lost count of the number of times I told them I was in a trust deed and to contact my trustee. I also called and made the trustee aware of each day they phoned and how many times. They are persistant. I'm sure I had almost 6 months of calls from them. Sometimes they were understanding and sometimes they were just downright rude. I informed them that if they chose to send someone over then that would be a waste of my time and theirs as they would be spoken to through the letter box.
It may be down to being an English company but I find it hard to believe that they know nothing of Trust Deeds. Also, nothing ever seems to save when they put a note on the account. I wonder why!!!!!
The other lot I had discussions with were Max Recovery. I can't remember who they represented but it was the same story. All I can say is do not be intimidated by these people. They can't do anything to you. If your Trust Deed is protected, they can't touch you. Try not to worry about it and good luck with this is all over.
Nothing left to discharge - everything's done and dusted!
Hi Gillian
Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated. If mercers call again, I will tell them you said hi !!! lol. All joking aside, I am more than happy to deal with these people on the phone, knowing that the law is on my side. But for the moment I am once again having to put my mobile on silent when in company, as I dont want to deal with these people in public. I thought that when my TD became protected i could finally put my ringer back on phone, but no!! Oh well, maybe some day......
Thanks TDA,
I have just opened my morning mail, and what did I get?? Yes, a lovely little default letter from mercers. So I have just called my case manager at GT who have asked me to send them my letter and they will deal with it for me. But basically not to worry. Oh the joys!!
