For those asking about getting a mortgage after a trust deed. It can be done with a high street lender and at reasonable interest rates.
Here are my timelines for people to use as a guide. Obviously circumstances differ and there are no guarantees but there is hope. Obviously time is a critical factor here, the longer you've been discharged, the better.
My timeline was;
- Entered a trust deed in March 2010
- Trust deed became protected around August 2010
- Discharged from trust deed in March 2014
- Trustee was discharged in October 2016
- Spoke to a mortgage broker and made an application for a mortgage with Newcastle Building Society in Jan 2017
- Offer for mortgage issued two weeks later.
- Settled a couple of weeks ago and am now the proud owner of a brand new home
Things that have helped me;
- My career has improved the past couple of years so my salary has increased thus my disposable income is a lot better than it was.
- Even when in my trust deed, I never missed or was late with a mortgage payment
- Since being discharged, all conduct on my credit accounts has been impeccable. Never missed a payment, always paid more than the minimum monthly payments for credit cards.
Hopefully this gives hopes to those of you that want to move on with your life and start afresh, which is ultimately what I think a trust deed is designed to do.
Good luck to you all.
Well done!
I was discharged along with my trustee in September 2011, and secured a mortgage with Nationwide exactly 2 years later.
Hi mapleleaf,
This is really encouraging post for other people who find themselves in a similar situation as to what you did in 2010.
It does go to show that there is life after a Trust Deed which for many people is sometimes hard to see right at the very start.
Thanks for coming onto the forum to share an update.
