Well after 3 years I have (hopefully) just found out that I have made my final payment in my trust deed.
What a relief to know that it is finished. I can start to build up my life again.

One question I have is that I was told that I cant re morgage for either 3 or 6 years, I was thinking about looking to sell my house and buy another, but it looks like that is going to have to wait....

Good for you Luckysnoop, and congratulations.

There is no formal amount of time after a trust deed finishes before you can remortgage.

It will depend upon your circumstances, your needs and what the mortgage market happens to be offering at that point in time.

Basically... it will be different for everyone.

I think sometimes people announce these specific periods of years in an attempt to sound knowledgeable, perhaps just because they already heard someone else say it, and sometimes perhaps because they're not confident that they can help you and don't want to put too much work into a situation that's unlikely to end up paying them anything.

It's certainly fair to say that remortgaging will be very difficult soon after your trust deed, and that it may become a more realistic over time in the future.

It may also be helpful when you reach the point at which the trust deed has dropped off your credit file (six years after it started).

By the way... if the amount that you'll need to borrow for your possible new home is no higher (than your current home) you may want to look into whether you can take your existing mortgage with you.

In mortgage terms it's known as being "portable". A lot of mortgages aren't, but some are.
