Hello 🙂

I have completed my payments to my trust deed as agreed back in Jun 2016, i received a letter today saying they are now doing the completion process and could take anywhere between 6 - 12 months?

Is this normal? i have made payments as agreed and now having to wait this long until it is all complete.

Many thanks

Darren

Welcome to the forum Halcrow24.

Congratulations on completing your payments.

There seem to have been quite a few questions raised on this topic recently.

There are in fact two discharges. The first is yours which is the most important. The second is the trustee's own discharge, which might happen quite a while after yours but which shouldn't make much or any difference to you.

No fixed timescales exist and firms seem to vary widely in terms of how long they take to process discharges. We do know what some firms discharge their clients within a few weeks of completing their payments, while others seem to take quite a while longer.

Hopefully when they're saying 6 to 12 months they're talking about their own discharge, with you having been discharged a fair while before then. You'd need to contact them directly though to hear what they've got to say about this in terms of what you can expect.
