We made our last payment on the 1st of December and have just received a letter from our Trust Deed to say that they are now going to try and claim PPI's from the loans that we had.
Does this mean that we could be left hanging on until this has been done? The letter has said that we must co-operate (which off course we will) until they receive discharge as our trustee.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi again kailea.

Congratulations on reaching the end of your trust deed.

We have heard from quite a few people that they are being advised that PPI investigations will be launched at the end of their trust deeds.

The general feeling here is that it is very unfortunate that certain trust deed firms are leaving this right until the point at which people expect to be discharged having completed their obligations.

From your previous thread I think you may have signed your trust deed prior to April 2008? That might make a difference to what can happen from here onwards.

Thankyou for your reply...yes that is correct we started the Trust Deed prior to April 2008 and we had to extend in order to get the equity together...so as you can imagine how disappointed we are to hear that it could take any longer.

I can completely understand kailea. These PPI claims could have been started months or years ago and been dealt with well before your expected discharge from your trust deed.

For cases signed after April 2008 you can be discharged from the trust deed while the PPI claims continue but I believe that this might not be the case for you I'm afraid.

My impression, from reading what a lot of people have written here on this subject, is that a minority of trust deed firms either don't appreciate how important discharge is to their clients after working so hard to get to the end of the process, or they just don't care.

If there is any good news, it's that banks are processing these claims really fast now compared to the way they used to be handled. We spoke to someone this week who was asking about using a claims firm. We talked them out of it, pointed them towards some template letters to handle it themselves, and they said they'd make a call to the bank to initiate the process. Within 24 hours they called us back to say the bank agreed to an ยฃ8000 payment there and then on the first phone call!!

Hopefully this will not take too long for you now. I'd suggest you keep on top of the claims firm to make sure that they are progressing your case as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your advice...such a pity we are going to have to wait longer for our discharge we have worked so hard to find the equity left in our property. Really surprised that this was'nt thought about sooner from our Trustee as it is through a large reputable company.
The forms from the claim company arrived today so these have been completed and returned so I guess its just a matter of being patience...
