Do these eventually drop off your file after 6years too? I've sent bankruptcy paperwork to everyone for the 4th time now and still nobody is updating their records. I was discharged in 2011 but still everything is showing on my file as defaulting every month. I don't know what else I can do, i've made countless phonecalls to departments and done everything asked me but getting nowhere and it's driving me up the wall. What else can I do to get my file cleared up?
Hi trustdeed1.
Yes, default notices (like everything else) stay on your credit file for six years.
You could make formal complaints to each organisation that is reporting incorrect information about you. This should ensure that someone sensible and empowered takes a look at it for you.
If that then fails you could take your complaint to the Information Commissioner. Reporting incorrect information to credit reference agencies is a data protection issue.
