Hi there. I'm in my sixth month of trust deed. My daughter is trying to get a mortgage but has been turned down. Can my credit rating affect her ability to secure one? She doesn't know about my trust deed and would rather keep it that way.

Hello notntodeedyet.

Not normally, a credit record is an individual thing.

The only exception might be if you were financially linked via your credit reports. Have you had a joint bank account, loan or mortgage (for example) with your daughter either in the past or now?

No nothing like that. She's found out that it was a missed credit cars payment on banks behalf and thy told her it had been removed but hasn't. So hopefully it will be resolved

Hi notntodeedyet,

Sometimes if a person has the same name as their mother or father this can occasionally cause problems for them.

As TDA has advised if your financially linked to another person this can also have an impact on credit ratings.

It's good to read though that it's nothing to do with your credit rating and in fact a problem with her credit card company. Make sure she chases this up to get it resolved. My colleague had a problem with a mobile phone provider in the summer which had an impact on his credit rating but after chasing them up about this they resolved it, apologised and sent him a voucher for the trouble.

Who has your daughter approached for a mortgage? I know when my partner and I approached the high street bank she worked for to obtain a mortgage they would only provide us with £30,000. There are not may properties for £30,000 for sale!!

The mortgage advisor at the bank couldn't understand it as we had a decent credit rating and a suitable deposit. I used a mortgage broker after that and secured a mortgage with no problems so it can depend who your daughter has used. It's always best to shop around.
