Hi,
I was discharged from my trust deed 12 months ago, however I only received my discharge letter and form two months ago.
My Credit file shows that I defaulted all accounts at random dates, after my trust deed started, literally 7 or 8 months after.
How do I get my file updated to show that all accounts actually defaulted on the same date when my trust deed commenced.
Are the creditors legally required to alter the dates once they received there final payment.
I would love to have a mortgage in a few years, and now I am worried that this could take longer than I expected.
Any help, advice would be much appreciated.

Excellent article, i shall follow up on that advice contained within.
Is there any specific format that the letter should be addressed in?
Obviously I can obtain the address details from m credit file, so the creditors have to adjust the date of default accordingly, if they disagree, is there anything further that I could do?

Hi Charlie232.

I don't think that there is any specific format to follow with the letter.

If you don't make any progress after writing to them I would:

1 - Make a formal complaint to the lender.

2 - If that doesn't work, raise the matter with the Information Commissioner.

Hopefully neither of these steps will be necessary though.

I am also going through this process at the moment, one thing I'm coming up against is creditors that have sold on the debt claiming they cant find any record of the debt, and the company that bought the debt claiming its up to the original creditor to update the credit files. This has been going on for a couple of months with only about 10% of creditors sorting out the credit records, think I may have to go down the road of contacting the Information Commissioner.

I will still have to start with the Data Controller for each Creditor, before contacting the ICO...
You can contact the Credit Reference Agency aswell, they will also look into it for you..

Hi.

In terms of default notices I can only think the responsibility to update would be with the issuer rather than a subsequent debt purchaser.

This isn't a statement of fact though. We're not really experts on credit files but have just learned a bit over time by making enquiries connected to forum threads here.
