Hi Folks
Nearly finished my TD - 2 more payments to go, have tried to build up my credit rating with Experien and I am now at a score of 969 and showing as "excellent". What I want to know is if I tried to obtain say a new sofa on HP, would I be declined for credit? - do they just look at the score? or all of my credit report.
I am really just wondering about future purchases, do not want to be embarrassed if I was declined. If anyone knows anything about this it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Cody
Hi Cody.
They probably wouldn't look at your score at all.
The "score" you're given is an estimate of how they think a lender might view your application based upon the information that they hold.
In reality different lenders will score you in different ways (based upon the information on your credit report and application) and compare your application to their acceptance criteria.
If their application criteria said (for example) that they would not accept anyone that had been discharged from a trust deed for less than a year then your "score" might be irrelevant.
The issue here I suppose is that you'll only find out by trying. Lenders don't typically publish their acceptance criteria.
Hi Cody
How did you manage to build up your rating when in the TD. Mine is about as low as it goes but I am only 9 months into the TD.
Hi kdog7
I have paid all payments on time - never missed one, got a Vanquis credit card in September, continued paying for small things like petrol etc, and paying off in full. In January this year my credit rating was showing as good but in April it has changed to excellent.

Hi Cody,
A score of 969 is excellent given that you are in a Trust Deed!
It's hard as TDA has said to really narrow down what criteria a lender will look at when considering a new application for credit. Some lenders will use only use one of the credit reference agencies or they will use a combination or even all of them for their information on a potential customer. The main ones to look at are Experian, Equifax & Call Credit. Make sure you check those three websites to see what your credit file looks like on all of them.
I think it's just a case of applying for it to see if you will be accepted or not. If you do apply let us know how you get on.
Hopefully your last two payments fly in!
