It was one of the hardest decisions I had to make at the time to look at a trust deed and fearing the worst.. However on the day of my wife went into labour with our first child on the way I felt a huge sense of responsibility come over me and that was to be in a better place financially. I can clearly remember phoning round looking for information on a 'trust deed' my daughter was born at 5:34pm however by 4:05pm that same day I made contact and set the wheels in motion...

Being told by my trustee to stop paying creditors was daunting not knowing if the next person who will knock at my door will someone working on behalf of a creditor, thankfully 3 months after my daughter was born i got the call to say that I was 'protected'.

The phone calls from the creditors continued but I ignored them although it was hard too, I still received letters and statements throughout the trust deed and my credit file took a battering... But knowing that I could not get credit for a while was a blessing as that what got me in trouble.. and 18 months after my first daughter was born, daughter number 2 arrived....

My trust deed finished 3 years ago and as of this morning my credit file show's 1 default for £61 (Santander - which comes of April next year) all other creditors 10 in total are gone 🙂

I have got my feet back on the ground financially over the years - albeit its hard work and every 'pre-selected credit card junk mail i get' now goes in the bin.. Family life has greatly improved and But I achieved my main goal which was to be debt free by the time my eldest daughter went into primary 1.. I have one more goal now and that is to buy a family home and I hope to start the process before the New Year in terms off mortgage promise...

For those thinking about a trust deed or have just entered it.
Yes the fear factor is there.
Yes its hard going for 3 years.
Yes its not nice to see your credit file take a hit...

But once the defaults have come of your file or in my case 99% of them.. The weight that gets lifted of your shoulders is an Awesome feeling.

Never let pride get in the way of what could possibly be the best decision o1d your/family's life/future..

All the very best to everyone of you.

Wow upnorth76, that's one of the most uplifting posts I've read here for a long time. Thanks for taking the time to share it.

I'm really pleased to hear that you find yourself in the place you wanted and planned to be.

Good post. My credit file is almost all clear so the debt has been dealt with and I'm certainly in a better place now than I have been in years.
